About this Event
Happy Paw-lidays Winter Camp December 27th, 30th, 31st, January 2nd, 3rd.
Please note this camp is 5 days, split up by the holidays and weekends. We will not have camp on any of the days in between.
Calgary Humane Society Day Camp is a place where kids connect with animals. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and learn about the animals that share our world. An enthusiastic staff of instructors and friendly animals give your child an enriching experience filled with hands-on animal encounters, fun activities, and crafts. As they have fun, campers learn respect, compassion, and how to provide a lifetime of care for animals.
Campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior and proper pet care as well as meet and possibly pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more! Activities are age and developmentally appropriate.

How is the camp organized?
Camp will be lead by a specially trained educator and assistants. Children in grades 1-6 will all be placed in the same group.
All children will need to bring a lunch as well as 2 light snacks and a bottle of water to camp each day. Children will be provided with the opportunity to eat a small snack or enjoy a drink at both mid-morning and mid-afternoon. If your child’s medical condition requires them to eat or drink at certain times please alert our camp staff prior to your child’s camp.
The Calgary Humane Society is NOT a peanut-free facility however we do request that parents avoid packing peanut products for the safety of all of our campers. Please also bring appropriate clothing for the weather and close toed shoes.
Will my child spend most of the day with animals?
Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, we are an open-admissions animal shelter which cares for all animals including some that may be sick, injured, and sometimes aggressive. Our ability to have kids interact with animals relies entirely on the types of animals who are in residence during the camp season. Our two top priorities are to provide our campers with a safe experience and to prevent our resident animals from any undue stress. Some animals simply cannot handle the attention of a large group of children at a time, and we endeavor to teach the children to respect the needs of each individual animal. That being said, when a gentle bunny, kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are definitely given the opportunity to interact with them. In addition, activities like dog training and animal socializing with guest animal ambassadors are the highlight of the week for many of our campers.
Please note: Activities are age specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis. We cannot guarantee specified types or amount of animal visits.
