Join the YMCA of Central Ohio with Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks and Step Back in Time at Slate Run Living Historical Farm! 🌾🐴
Travel back to the 1880s and experience what farm life was really like! Families will start with a fun introduction from a costumed staff member before exploring the historic house, gardens, and farm buildings on a self-guided tour.
Then, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and head to the barn to help the farmers with their evening chores! Get ready for an experience filled with the sights, sounds, smells, and hands-on fun of an 1880s farm. You will even get the chance to gently touch the horses and sheep!
Come ready to explore, get a little messy, and experience farm life from long ago!

Location and Driving Directions: Slate Run Historical Farm 1375 SR 674 N, Canal Winchester, 43110. Once inside Slate Run Metro Park, follow the small green signs to the Farm. You will turn left after the brown Ranger Station cabin, left again at the intersection, and right into the Farm paved road. You will see the Farm hours sign as you turn. Park in the paved parking lot, use the restrooms, and come through the wooden timber frame entranceway. Walk up the gravel lane to the white Farmhouse. The staff member will meet you at 2pm.
**Note: do not drive straight through the park when you arrive. This leads to the Buzzards Roost Area and it's a 5 minute drive back to the Farm.

Rain or Shine?: Yes. Dress for the weather!
Recommended items to bring, things to wear, etc: Wear closed-toe shoes such as old tennis shoes or boots, and dress for the weather.
Is this program wheelchair/stroller friendly?: Stroller friendly. Barnyard can be muddy if there has been rain. If it has been dry for a good period of time, all are wheelchair friendly. Please note, there is a slight incline between the house and barn area. There is a concrete ramp behind the house for house access and ramp leading into the summer kitchen outbuilding.
Does this program have ready access to running water? No. We have a hand-operated pump at the house that can be used for handwashing and drinking. Running water, accessible flush toilets, and diaper changing area are in the parking lot restrooms. There is one outhouse with two steps at the house area for emergencies.
Is this program in the sun, shade, or other outdoor elements we should make families aware of?: Sun but lots of shaded areas.
What type of path is it on? (gravel, dirt, rocks, etc): Hard-packed gravel lane leading from the parking lot to the house and up to the barn. Brick sidewalks around the house. Grass in play area, garden area, and barnyard. Please note: our 1880s Farm consists of mostly uneven surfaces and no pavement.
