Hanuman Calisa study group, kīrtan & Potluck

6:00 arrival, settle in
6:15 PM we will begin to learn the Hanuman Calisa and talk about its meaning and how to learn it over the next 1 year. This will be the first meeting of quarterly study group meetings to learn this long hymn. We will hand out lyrics and Angela will lead us through a beautiful sung version of the Calisa. Then we will conclude with some communal call and response kīrtan style chanting.
7:30 or 8pm we will eat food. Marla will provide kichari and sides. Please bring food or drinks to share.
This is a great class for someone who is curious about this 40 line devotional hymn that we often hear followers of Neem Karoli Baba sing (like Krishna Das, Jai Uttal and more Western Kīrtan artists). In the Indian tradition this is one of the many verses in the Vedas that we can choose to learn and commit to in our personal practice, sādhana. Lyrics will be available for you to learn from and take home.
Donations ($10-20) are appreciated for Angela who is coming from out of town to lead sound and kirtan experiences in Rochester between 7/11-7/13.
