About this Event

Today's Hanover Square Lunchtime Concert is given by Peter de Souza (piano), who will be performing works by Mozart and Handel, who was once a parishioner at St George's.

Mozart - Piano Sonata in D major K 311
Handel - Suite in D minor HWV 428: v. Air and 5 Doubles

As always admission is free with a retiring collection.

Peter is a London-based pianist, harpsichordist, organist, clarinettist and Javanese gamelan player (Indonesian classical music) with performance experience across the UK and Indonesia, including the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and the International Gamelan Festival in Java.

As a keyboardist, he is deeply devoted to the music of Mozart and the French repertoire of the ancien régime. Peter is especially fascinated by how this music was performed in the historical context in which it was composed and loves to share these insights with audiences.

A particular passion of his is to introduce classical music to younger generations, pursued through the London Philharmonic Orchestra's New Generation Board. He is also Chair of the Board of Trustees at Orchestra for the Earth, who use musical experiences to connect listeners to the natural world. In addition to this, he is a regular church organist, solo recitalist and enjoys playing gamelan at the UK Indonesian Embassy and Southbank Centre. Outside of his musical life, Peter is an experienced ultramarathon runner and works as a hedge fund analyst at Man Group.

Peter obtained a first class Honours degree in Music from King's College London, specialising in 18th-century music and dance, keyboard music from Bach to Beethoven, clarinet performance (with the Royal Academy of Music) and composition. He was awarded the Adam Prize for receiving the highest marks in the Faculty of Music. Furthermore, Peter holds diplomas for piano and clarinet performance from the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College London.
