Looking Back, Looking Forward: A Selection of Figurative Studies from 1995 to 2024.
The paintings on exhibition are based on real as well as imaginary subjects, exploring the human condition through expressive painterly means.
Most of the paintings lean towards the 'emotional dark side', but may incorporate irony and touches of humour as can be observed in the way titles are chosen after completion.
In his process Hannes relies on sound and proficient painting techniques underpinned by a broad art historical understanding. For him, this is important in order to develop a personal artistic freedom that has the potential of rendering a unique and meaningful creative endeavour.
