About this Event
50 years after the philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt’s death on 4 December 1975, we are taking a fresh look at the multi-faceted life of this thinker extraordinaire and the undiminished actuality of her work in context of current social and political affairs. We will be following her path from her origins in Germany to her forced migration due to her Jewish roots from Nazi-Germany via France to the USA – also including her stay at Edinburgh university for two semesters between 1972 and 1974. Apart from her theoretical work, we will focus on her tireless engagement in acute social and political questions – and its relevance today.
All participants are very much invited to participate in the discussion and to share the texts and episodes from her career which left the deepest impression on them. We are looking forward to a lively discussion and your visit!
'Deutsche Runde' is an informal gathering and exchange around a chosen topic of German language or culture. It is ideal for learners with some knowledge of German (B1 and higher). The event is held in German and moderated by Hanna Dede.
