This comprehensive Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with practical knowledge and real-world strategies for managing and strengthening radiation safety programs across a variety of clinical environments. Through expert-led lectures, interactive discussions, tabletop exercises, and hands-on labs, participants will gain a deeper understanding of regulatory requirements, radiation oncology safety, theranostics, internal dosimetry, spill response, and effective risk communication.
The course covers essential topics including radiation oncology oversight, NRC rule changes, ALARA principles, theranostics and radiopharmaceutical therapy considerations, and emergency response planning. Participants will learn how to effectively engage stakeholders, communicate during safety events, and respond to real-world radiation safety scenarios.
Hands-on experiences include a survey meter lab, spill lab, video hot lab tour, and interactive tabletop exercises simulating medical events, major spills, and radiotherapy complications. Case study discussions and Q&A sessions with expert faculty will provide additional opportunities to apply concepts, strengthen decision-making skills, and prepare for unexpected radiation safety challenges in clinical practice.

This optional add-on session is designed for professionals involved in radiation safety program oversight and administration. Topics include radiation safety program management, X-ray and radioactive material oversight, documentation and audit readiness, dosimetry program management, Radiation Safety Committee requirements, Joint Commission updates effective January 1, 2026, and practical strategies for organizing and maintaining compliant radiation safety programs.
