About this Event
October 1, 2025 | Delta Grand Theatre, Opelousas, LA6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Doors open at 5:30 PM)
Join us for the official opening of Creole Heritage Month with the unveiling of Hands of Heritage, a first-of-its-kind collaborative book that pairs the photography of seven Louisiana photographers with the writings of eight distinguished authors. Centered on the theme of hands, the book captures stories of labor and struggle, ritual and resilience, love, loss, and memory — brought to life through the voices of people of color across Louisiana.
The evening will also feature the debut of the official Creole Culture Day 2025 artwork by world-renowned artist Bryant Benoit. Known for his bold and evocative style, Benoit will present a new mixed-media piece created especially for this occasion, adding another powerful layer to the celebration of Creole culture.
The program includes an intimate acoustic set by Sydney Hall and Michael Lockett, along with a spoken word performance by writer Candice Leigh.
Contributing Writers (alphabetical): Mona Lisa Dunn, Ruth Foote, Quinn Foster, Ja’el Gordon, Candice Leigh, Valentine Pierce, Joshua Thomas, Elliot Wade.
Contributing Photographers (alphabetical): Milton Arceneaux, Quincy Bernard, Joan Bolden, Zig R. Etienne, Kierra Hammond, Terry Mouton, James Wilson.
Writers and photographers will be present for a special signing. Copies of the Hands of Heritage book will be available for purchase at the event, with proceeds supporting the ongoing work of Creole Culture. Limited copies available — reserve yours early.
Free and open to the public, this event opens a month dedicated to honoring Creole history, resilience, and creativity.
