HANDS IN MOTION, SILENT VOICES
Challenging Audism. Building an Accessible Future.
What happens when accessibility is treated as an afterthought?
Hands in Motion, Silent Voices brings together lived experiences, education, performance, advocacy, and community conversation to challenge audism, ableism, communication barriers, and barriers to accessibility and inclusion.
Audism specifically refers to discrimination, prejudice, assumptions, and barriers experienced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing people when hearing and spoken communication are treated as the expected or superior standard.
But our conversation doesn't stop there.
This event opens the door to a larger conversation about ableism and accessibility and how assumptions, environments, policies, and communication practices can prevent people with disabilities from fully participating.
This event is for everyone.
You do not have to be Deaf.
You do not have to have a disability.
You do not have to already understand audism or ableism.
Come because you want to understand.
