Handel’s Messiah – Manchester Camerata at The MonasteryFew works capture the spirit of Christmas quite like Handel’s Messiah. First performed over two centuries ago, this iconic oratorio was once described as “too fashionable for church” – selling out faster than today’s biggest festival headliners.
Now a beloved national treasure and a staple of the festive season, Messiah showcases Handel’s genius at its peak. Written in just 24 days after a difficult period in his life, it marked one of the greatest comebacks in music history – a work of joy, redemption and timeless beauty.
For this special performance in the awe-inspiring Great Nave of The Monastery, Manchester, Manchester Camerata joins forces with acclaimed conductor Laurence Cummings, Music Director of the Academy of Ancient Music and one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Handel’s work.
They are joined by the Kantos Chamber Choir, whose transcendent harmonies perfectly complement the Camerata’s rich, expressive playing – creating a truly heavenly soundscape.
The Monastery, Gorton, Manchester – easily accessible from Manchester city centre, Salford, Stockport, and the wider North West.
