About this Event
You will learn to
- Build a basic vessel using pinch, coil, or slab hand‑building techniques.
- Shape walls, refine form, and add texture or simple decorative details.
- Finish your piece for firing by smoothing surfaces and preparing it for the kiln.
How the class works
- Start with a brief demo and safety intro, then guided warm‑up with clay to build confidence.
- Work step‑by‑step: instructor demos, hands‑on practice, and one‑on‑one feedback.
- Finish with surface choices, drying prep, and a clear firing/pickup timeline.
What's included
- All class materials provided
- Open studio access from 2:00 to 6:30 PM (shared basic art supplies for independent work provided)
- Light snacks, tea, water, and coffee
A few things to note
- You’re welcome to arrive anytime during the studio access hours to enjoy the open studio, but please make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes before your class start time (2:30 PM, 90-minute class) so you can settle in.
- During open studio hours, you’re welcome to work on your own project, enjoy light snacks, tea, and coffee, and connect with other creative people at your own pace.
Additional firing fees apply if you decide to keep your creation:
- Bisque and glaze firing: $0.16 per cubic inch
- $10 glazing and handling fee per piece
- Finished pieces will be available for pickup at a later date.
Taught by Zek Lutz (pronounced Zeke)
Lutz a creator and educator living in Brooklyn, NY, teaching students of all ages. She has a background in Forensic Science and many years in the hospitality and private events industries. For nearly a decade she's worked with clay, more recently expanding her passion for working with clay to teaching ceramics. Influenced by Wabi-Sabi, she mirrors natural forms, embracing cracks and tears. “I feel unrestricted when my hands are in clay; it’s an unwavering connection with the earth that allows me to lead with anticipation and appreciation for possibilities."

The Space & Atmosphere
This is a welcoming, flexible environment. You’re encouraged to take breaks and move at your own rhythm.
- Open studio with areas for independent work and guided classes
- Comfortable seating: chairs, couches, and floor seating with pillows
- Curated background music
- Freedom to sit, stand, or work on the floor
- Slippers encouraged (bring your own for extra comfort; a few extras available)

Refund & Cancellation Policy
Tickets are refundable if canceled at least 7 days before the event. Please note that third-party platform processing fees (charged by Luma) are non-refundable, even if your ticket is canceled.
Within 7 days of the event, tickets are non-refundable, as we finalize materials and staffing for the class. If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to give your ticket to a friend. Please have them check in using your name.
In the rare case that the event does not meet minimum participation requirements, we’ll contact ticket holders at least 48 hours in advance with the option to reschedule or receive a full refund (excluding third-party processing fees).
