Hampshire EJCOA National Junior Championships Zonal 2026

The Hampshire EJCOA National Junior Championships Qualifier is for all players born on or after 1st January 2006

T he Under 12 section will be for players born on or after 1st January 2014

T he Under 10 section will be for players born on or after 1st January 2016

T he Under 8 section will be for players born on or after 1st January 2018

(In addition Under 18 players are born on or after 1st January 2008, Under 16 players are born on or after 1st January 2010 and Under 14 players born on or after 1st January 2012 and these will play in the merged Under 20 section but be qualifiers for the finals accordingly. See below for details)

The event is open to all regardless of home location.

SCHEDULE:

ARRIVE : 09.30, Introduction: 09.45, Round 1: 10.00, Round 2: 11.00, Round 3: 12.00, Lunch: 13.00, Round 4: 14.00, Round 5: 15.00, Round 6: 16.00, PRIZEGIVING: 17.00

TIME CONTROL: Rapidplay, 20 minutes plus a five second increment each.

PRIZES: determined by the entrants’ age as at 1st January 2006

Cash prizes will be awarded for the Under 20 age category as follows:

1st: £50, 2nd: £30, 3rd: £20

F or the Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8 categories we will award trophies for

1 st, 2nd and 3rd places using a tie-breaking mechanism to separate any tied scores.

In addition there will be a cash prize of £20 for the highest placed girl in each section.

These are guaranteed prizes. With sufficient entries, prizes may be increased at the Congress Controller’s discretion.

ENTRY FEES and RULES:

• Entry fee for all age categories: £35

• Congress results will be submitted to the English Chess Federation (ECF) for rating

• Entrants must either be a Bronze or Gold ECF member or pay a "Pay-to-Play" fee

• Non-ECF members can pay a £2.50 Pay-to-Play fee or apply via the ECF web site for a free 1 year Silver membership provided they have not been an ECF member previously.

QUALIFICATION FOR THE EJCOA CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The criteria for qualification for the EJCOA finals are:

By winning your age section (one boy and one girl qualify from Under 8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20 age groups).

We have merged the U14, U16, U18 and U20 sections into a single U20 section and the highest placed U14, U16 and U18 male and female players will qualify accordingly.

Badger Farm is enclosed and a safe environment for children and announcements may be made at the commencement of the competition.

COACHING:

We are delighted to announce that we will have at least one accredited coach in attendance, Lucas Piecha. He will observe games and provide training sessions between rounds. Details will be announced once they are confirmed. Lucas is a FIDE Schools Trainer.

HAMPSHIRE JUNIOR CHESS ASSOCIATION:

PHOTOGRAPHY:

No photography (without permission) will be permitted within the playing area during play. The organisers may use an official photographer to take stills and videos for publicity purposes. Please inform the organisers in advance if you wish your child to be excluded from the photographs or videos.

REFRESHMENTS:

Badger Farm Community Centre is adjacent to Sainsbury's and Starbucks. However, we would advise you to bring your own refreshments.

PARENT SEATING AREAS:

Various parent seating areas exist within Badger Farm Community Centre which will be sign-posted and Starbucks within Sainsbury's has an excellent seating area provided you patronize their business!
