Halloween may be technically over on the 31st, but the party lives on with the San Francisco Halloween Pub Crawl: Dia de los Muertos. Taking place on Saturday, November 1, this event is the grand finale of San Francisco’s epic four-day Halloween pub crawl series. From 4PM to 10PM, you will celebrate in style across the Marina and Polk Gulch neighborhoods, toasting the season’s end with great drinks, lively vibes, and festive nods to the Day of the Dead.
Though their origins differ (Halloween emerging from Celtic Samhain traditions and Día de los Muertos rooted in pre-Columbian customs), both holidays share a profound connection in celebrating life and death.
We understand that Día de los Muertos is far more than a "Mexican Halloween"; it is a deeply meaningful tradition of remembrance, marked by colorful altars, rituals, and offerings to honor loved ones who have passed. Our pub crawl embraces the individuality of both holidays, blending the playful spirit of Halloween costumes with respectful nods to the Day of the Dead's themes of memory and connection. Join us for a night of discounted drinks, lively music & surprises as we celebrate these traditions in style at top bars across the Marina and Polk Gulch neighborhoods.
What to Expect
The crawl begins at one of two check-in locations (Mayes Oyster House or Rick & Roxy’s) where you’ll pick up your wristband, event map, and party favors to get into the spirit. With access to a lineup of fantastic bars offering discounted drink specials, you’ll have everything you need for a night of spirited celebration.
Participating venues include local hotspots like The Blue Light, El Lopo, Sacred Taco, and Union Street Ale House, each bringing its unique flair to the festivities. Whether you’re in the mood for a lively dance floor or a cozy corner to sip your margarita, there’s something for everyone.
Highlights of the Night
Discounted Drinks: Sip on specialty cocktails, craft beers, and more without breaking the bank.
Find the Gnome Contest: Keep your eyes peeled for hidden gnomes in participating bars. Find one and win a CrawlSF prize bag and bragging rights.
Party Favors: From glow sticks to festive accessories, you’ll be decked out in style for the night.
Awesome Neighborhoods: Explore the charm of Polk Gulch and the Marina as you hop between bars, soaking up the unique vibes of each venue.
As the grand finale of San Francisco’s Halloween season, this crawl is the perfect way to close out the festivities. With its nod to Dia de los Muertos, the event invites you to celebrate life, community, and great drinks in one of the city’s most iconic nightlife scenes.
Grab your friends, don your best face paint or costume, and head to Mayes Oyster House or Rick & Roxy’s to check in and join the fun. This is your last chance to experience the magic of Halloween in San Francisco.
About Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos
While Halloween and Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) are celebrated differently, both stem from ancient traditions that honor the dead. Halloween’s origins trace back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the end of harvest and a time when the boundary between the living and spirit worlds blurred. On the other hand, Día de los Muertos dates back to pre-Columbian cultures like the Aztecs, who celebrated life and death as interconnected cycles.
Though Halloween leans into costumes, spookiness, and fun frights, and Day of the Dead focuses on joyous remembrance with colorful altars, marigolds, and family gatherings, both reflect a common thread: acknowledging death as part of life. These holidays, though unique in expression, remind us to embrace both memory and celebration—whether through trick-or-treating or sharing offerings with departed loved ones.
