Toronto-based musicians Meagan Luchko and Jacob Gorzhaltsan are thrilled to take the stage alongside an exceptional lineup of Sudbury talent for a special Halloween event at the Night Owl on October 31st. They will present a set of spooky-themed jazz tunes, perfect for the occasion. Meagan Luchko is an accomplished vocalist known for her extensive repertoire in jazz and swing. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Anita O'Day, Ella Fitzgerald, and Norma Winstone, Meagan’s voice combines a sophisticated elegance with a distinctive personal touch. She brings new life to classic jazz standards, adding her own interpretations while honoring the tradition of the genre. Over her career, she has performed with various groups across Canada and the U.S., sharing the stage with jazz legends like Jackie Richardson, Doc Severinsen, Donny McCaslin, and John Scofield, among many others.
Jacob Gorzhaltsan is a JUNO-nominated multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer-songwriter also based in Toronto. His versatile career sees him performing and recording extensively both as a bandleader and sideman with numerous ensembles. Jacob has played on stages across Canada and the U.S., and has been part of acclaimed productions with Soulpepper Company, Holla Jazz, and The Ward Cabaret. He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with internationally renowned artists and is a frequent collaborator on notable projects.
Jacob's recent accolades include a JUNO nomination for his work with Alex Bird and the Jazz Mavericks on their album You Are the Light and the Way (2021). He also contributed to Denielle Bassels' JUNO-nominated album A Little Bit of Love (2024) and recorded on the JUNO-winning children's album Heart Parade by Splash'N Boots (2020). In 2021, Jacob received a Toronto Arts Council grant to record his debut full-length album of original compositions. Released on September 12, 2023, Farewell to All the Lovely Things by his indie-folk band, Wide Arches, which also features the remarkable vocals of Meagan Luchko, has been well-received by critics. The album has made an impact on Canadian college radio, charting nine times, including several top 10 spots.
