This year, the Half Fast Lap is much earlier than usual to avoid conflict with the AROC-USA National Convention in Chicago. The 2025 Half Fast Lap will be held July 19, 20, and 21. We'll be wandering backroads out to Aberdeen, then out to Westport for lunch. From there we head to Cape Disappointment (Discover pass!) then across the 3+ mile long Megler bridge to Astoria and a pleasant beachfront hotel in Seaside.
Sunday has us wandering a scenic path over to Forest Grove for the wonderful Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance held on the grassy grounds of Pacific University. This is their 51st year and once again it looks like a great show with amazing cars on display. When ready, the return route to our hotel in Seaside is a southerly path that comes through Tillamook then north with optional stops at a maritime museum or a wonderful nature trail.
Monday has us wandering the southern side of the Columbia River before crossing into and stopping at Hulda Klager Lilac Garden. The aroma is intoxicating during peak season but though we’ll miss peak, the space is still wonderful. Next, we wander to the scenic Cedar Creek Grist Mill before lunch, then a back road drive north to the Seattle area and home.
Seaside is an amazingly busy space in summer so getting a hotel under $350 is tough. Getting them to hold a block of rooms is tougher yet. I have done both at Lanai at the Cove, which is just south of the center of town and right on the beach. Every room has a great view… so if somebody stays behind on Sunday, they’ll have a great spot to relax.
