This seminar pairs a case study of AI diffusion with an organizational approach to technological changes in the workplace. Alexandr Lenk (Instacart Economics) will share findings on how AI adoption diffuses through peer networks inside firms and drives real productivity gains with evidence from a major e-commerce company's engineering and data-science teams. Arvind Karunakaran (Stanford MS&E) will offer an organizational lens on what follows: how the arrival of AI tools reshapes roles, workflows, expert authority, evaluative metrics, and  and oversight relationships at work, drawing on his field research on human-AI augmentation. Moderated discussion will explore where these two pictures meet, and where they diverge.
