About this Event
This talk will follow the Hackney History (Friends of Hackney Archives) AGM which starts at 6pm at Hackney Archives. You are welcome to come along for the AGM as well; talk starts at 6.30pm.
Hear how the Gunpowder Plot was uncovered in Hoxton? Or was it?
Sean Gubbins, who led history walks around Hoxton for 10 years, sets the scene for Hoxton in 1605. Was it because this ancient Liberty of the parish of Shoreditch was home to folk who still adhered to the ‘old religion’ that the Gunpowder Plot was exposed here?
Sue Doe, co-writer of Women from Hackney's History, will then focus on two Hackney women involved (one unwittingly) with the Gunpowder Plot.
Sue will follow this up with some news about the second volume of Women from Hackney’s History.
This is an in-person event at Hackney Archives, 2nd floor, CLR James Library, Dalston (E8).
