Hackers Guild Career Workshop Series:
Resume, Pitch, and Negotiation,
with Daniel Carr
The Hackers Guild Career Workshop Series is a structured, three-part program focused on how technical professionals present, defend, and negotiate their value in today’s job market. The sessions are designed to build on one another, forming a complete progression from resume development to offer negotiation.
Rather than focusing on tools or job titles, this series emphasizes outcomes, business impact, and decision-making. Participants will work through real examples, revise their own materials, and practice high-pressure interactions in a guided, hands-on environment.
Session 1: Architecture of a Powerhouse Resume (February 5) Learn how to transform a resume from a task list into a strategic document. Topics include leading with impact, identifying high-leverage projects, rewriting bullets to emphasize results and ROI, and balancing ATS requirements with language that resonates with human reviewers.
Session 2: The High-Stakes Pitch (February 12) Focus on presenting technical work under scrutiny. This session covers framing value over features, handling difficult interview questions, managing failure and conflict scenarios, building effective follow-up processes, and demonstrating leadership presence.
Session 3: Negotiating the Total Package (February 26) Learn how to approach compensation discussions strategically. Topics include setting strong anchors, negotiating non-monetary assets such as flexibility and professional development, and responding to common recruiter push-back through live role-play simulations.
