Of Armenian descent, he was born in Georgia and moved to Russia. Aram Khachaturyan, a contemporary of Shostakovich, was clearly a child of the Soviet Union and excelled quasi throughout his life as an exemplary Soviet composer. He wrote the wide-ranging ballet Gayaneh in 1942 as an Armenian profile piece with several faces: the difference between the turbulent Sabre Dance and the equally famous Adagio is great. The Russian (musical) landscape also inspired Ravel to orchestrate Mussorgsky's piano work Pictures at an exhibition. Yet the orchestral sauce around the Russian theme is as French as it gets. An alto saxophone as a solo voice Mussorgsky could not even imagine. The young conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian guides the experienced Gürzenich Orchester Köln from one painting to the next.

D'origine arménienne, il est né en Géorgie et s'est installé en Russie. Aram Khachaturyan, contemporain de Chostakovitch, était clairement un enfant de l'Union soviétique et a excellé presque tout au long de sa vie comme compositeur soviétique exemplaire. Il a écrit le ballet Gayaneh en 1942, une pièce de caractère arménien à plusieurs visages : la différence entre la turbulente Danse du sabre et le non moins célèbre Adagio est énorme. Le paysage (musical) russe a également inspiré Ravel pour l'orchestration de l'œuvre pour piano Tableaux d’une exposition de Moussorgski. Pourtant, la sauce orchestrale autour du thème russe est plutôt française. Un saxophone alto comme voix soliste, Moussorgski n'aurait même pas pu l'imaginer. Aram Chatsjatoerjan, leeftijdgenoot van Sjostakovitsj, was duidelijk een kind van de Sovjetunie en blonk quasi heel zijn leven lang uit als voorbeeldige Sovjetcomponist. Hij schreef het breedvoerige ballet Gayaneh in 1942 als Armeens profielstuk met meerdere gezichten: het verschil tussen de turbulente Sabeldans en het al even beroemde Adagio is groot. Het Russische (muziek)landschap inspireerde ook Ravel om Mussorgski’s pianowerk Schilderijententoonstelling te orkestreren. Toch is de orkestrale saus rond het Russische thema zo Frans als het maar zijn kan. Een altsaxofoon als solostem kon Mussorgski zich niet eens voorstellen. De jonge dirigent Emmanuel Tjeknavorian gids het ervaren Gürzenich Orchester Köln van het ene schilderij naar het andere.
