🏀 GUS ACADEMY WINTER CAMP — DEC 21st–23rd 🏀Elyria, Know Your Why.
When I was growing up, basketball came easy to me — but as I got older, I realized that talent alone wasn’t enough. I worked harder than ever, yet no matter how much I improved, I was often overlooked. That feeling of being unseen changed me. I stopped playing for validation and started training for myself — focusing on discipline, heart, and a true love for the grind.
That same mindset shaped who I am today — not just as a player, but as a coach and mentor. After years of training kids, I learned that coaching is about more than just teaching drills — it’s about connecting with young athletes, understanding their struggles, and helping them build confidence through the work.
When I watched my little brother and sister go through sports here in Elyria, I saw what was missing — passionate coaches who truly care about their players. That’s when I decided to bring something different home.
At Gus Academy, I don’t just teach basketball — I teach discipline, effort, and heart. My sessions are fun and competitive, but every moment has a purpose. My goal is to help kids believe in themselves, understand the “why” behind what they’re doing, and feel proud of their growth both on and off the court.
That’s what inspired the Gus Academy Winter Camp — a 3-day experience designed to teach, inspire, and motivate Elyria’s youth.
