GUMBY AND THE GHOSTS: Drawings by Tony Coleman and Andrew Jeffrey Wright

Galactic Panther is proud to announce the opening of Gumby and the Ghosts, an exhibit by Anthony "Tony" Coleman and Andrew Jeffrey Wright. The collection of new drawings celebrates the partnership of two Philadelphia artists, Tony Coleman and Andrew Jeffrey Wright, who have been collaborating since 2022. In their collaborative work, Tony draws his highly stylized portraits of people, animals, and cartoon characters and then Andrew fills the background with his abstract waves and patterns. This is the second time the artists have exhibited at Galactic Panther, but the first time that the artists have included both collaborative drawings and works created by each artist individually. This collection is stunningly unique and playful, creating an exhibit you will not want to miss.  

Tony Coleman is a self-taught, non-verbal, specially abled artist who was born and raised in Philadelphia. He began drawing his unique portraits at a young age, with a non-stop desire to create. Coleman's distinct style combines the color and mood of cartoons from the 60s, 70s, and 80s with a keen eye for portraiture, drawing inspiration from Western movies, circus clowns, high fashion, horror films, animals, and the pop culture of the era, pushing familiar imagery into something unmistakably his own. Coleman has achieved wide recognition for his vividly colored, pop culture and graffiti-inspired work with a prolific output celebrated across numerous national & international exhibitions and publications, including ARTFORUM magazine.

Andrew Jeffrey Wright is a current and founding member of Philadelphia's Space 1026 and holds a BFA in Animation from The University of the Arts, where he spent much of his time in the printmaking and photography departments. His work draws on a wide range of influences, including underground comics & cartoons of the 70s and 80s, Surrealism, graffiti, Russian Suprematism and Constructivism, 70s interior design, French New Wave cinema, and 60s psychedelia. Working across comics, murals, screen prints, paintings, animation, drawings, collage, photography, sculpture, video, installation, and comedy performance, Wright considers collaboration a vital part of his artistic practice and also boasts an impressive list of national and international exhibitions.

Gumby and the Ghosts: Drawings by Tony Coleman and Andrew Jeffrey Wright joins Galactic Panther’s tradition of presenting world-class contemporary art in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, where visual art and live performance come together in an experience unlike any other.

Located in Old Town Alexandria, Galactic Panther showcases avant-garde, visionary, and socially conscious art from around the world.
