Gulf Lionfish Derby
🔴 Why lionfish?
Lionfish are NOT native to the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic waters — and they're wreaking havoc on our reefs. These voracious predators eat almost anything, have no natural predators here, and reproduce at an alarming rate (a single female can release up to 2 million eggs per year - oh yeah and their eggs float and move with the current!😯). They're devastating native fish populations and threatening the coral reef ecosystems we love to dive and fish.
🏆 Did you know? The state of Florida actively rewards divers for removing lionfish from our waters! The FWC Lionfish Challenge (FWC Reef Rangers) offers some seriously amazing prizes for participating divers. Check it out 👉 reefrangers.myfwc.com
🤿 Here's your chance to be part of the solution. We're giving Advanced and Nitrox divers the opportunity to join FWC's initiative and spend three full tanks pulling some harmful — and absolutely delicious — lionfish right out of the Gulf. 🍽️. We recommend lionfish Ceviche!
That's right. Lionfish taste incredible, and removing them is one of the most impactful things a diver can do for our local marine environment. Hunt 'em. Eat 'em. Save the reef. 🌿
📩 Spots are limited — DM us or comment below to reserve your place on this trip. Let's make a difference underwater together! 💙
Lionfish hunting classes are available, as well as @LionfishZooKeeper , gloves, polespears, and more!
