Join warden Mick Jones to explore the remarkably rich wildlife habitats around the Rothschild built pumping station in the Dancersend valleyDiscover the amazingly rich habitats left from the creation of the Dancersend pumping station and reservoirs and the earlier chalk quarrying and lime production in this hidden patch of the Chilterns. This part of the Dancersend Reserve, operated in collaboration with Thames Water and not open to the general public, packs in a surprisingly varied range of wildlife in a relatively small area heavily influenced by hundreds of years of industrial activity. Find out how we manage the site alongside ongoing operations to supply drinking water drawn from the underground aquifer.
A short walk at a gentle pace with frequent stops. Suitable for anyone with reasonable mobility, but some uphill and downhill sections with steps and rough ground, which may be slippery. Stout footwear essential along with suitable clothing for the forecast.
