This guided history walk highlights stories of Manchester’s female founders and entrepreneurs across three centuries.
About this Event

Hear tales of women who, in a growing town, set up businesses from laundries to brothels, and stories of the wealthy founders of landmark buildings.

Discover others who led protest campaigns including for women’s voting rights or who set up their own societies when banned from those of men.

Some were loud leaders, others a quieter influence.

Who is the walk for?

The stories are about women but the walk is not exclusively for women – all adults are welcome.

However, the content means that this walk isn’t suitable for children.

Please note that the only dogs allowed are assistance dogs.

Where and when?

Meet outside Chetham’s Library Entrance, Long Millgate M3 1SB (Cathedral Gardens, not far from the National Football Museum).

The walk starts at 11am but I’ll be there from 10.45 to meet you.

The walk will last about 90 minutes.

Practical details

Our walks go ahead in all weathers, and this one takes place entirely outside, so please dress for the weather and a walk around town.
