Come walk with us! Join us for a guided two hour walk of the beautiful Flint Pen Strand and learn the secrets of this special place.
About this Event

Renew your sense of discovery, and reap the benefits of immersing yourself in real Florida, on our guided walk of Flint Pen Strand (FPS). On this two hour walk, led by a CREW volunteer, you'll discover an essential part of the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW)-one of the last wildlife corridors that stretches into the Everglades- and see firsthand local plants and animals of all shapes and sizes. Experience habitat restoration in action and discover the trails that you can continue to take advantage of long after your guided walk is over. Limited to 12 people.

Time: 9:00am - 11:00am

Distance & Difficulty: ~1.5 miles at a leisurely pace but across uneven ground

What to Wear and Bring:

  • Dress appropriately. We suggest: long pants, durable close-toed shoes, and hat.
  • Wear or bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray.
  • Hiking accessories, like walking stick, binoculars, camera equipment, flora and fauna guide books are optional but welcome.
  • Bring plenty of water or re-hydration drink & snacks.

Location: Flint Pen Strand Trailhead -15970 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34135. The walk will be led along the red trail. Meet your guide at the Main Parking Lot. After entering FPS on Vincent Road, continue left and the main parking lot will be immediately ahead on your left.

FAQ

Is there an age limit for the event?

With the exception of our Family Guided Walks and Strolling Science Seminars for Kids, our programs are suggested for ages 16 and older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are not invited to this event unless they are a service animal.

What are the trails like?

The trails are mostly grassy, level, and wide. Expect seasonally wet and muddy places on the trails during the rainy season (July - December).

What are the parking/facilities like at the trails?

Our parking areas are unpaved gravel or grass lots. Port-a-potty facilities are available at all trailhead parking lots.

What should I wear/bring?

You should wear protective/comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. You may want to also bring a hat. Bring plenty of water!

Do I have to bring a printed ticket to the event?

No. We do not issue printed tickets. Simply check in with the event leader at the time of the event.

Is my registration/ticket transferable?

Yes. You may give your spot to someone else. Be sure to change the information on your registration page accessed through your confirmation email.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, you may update your registration information up to 24 hours before the event.

Can I cancel my ticket(s)?

Yes, we understand things come up. You may cancel your ticket(s) up to 48 hours before the event for a full refund. Closer to the event, if you can't make it or are running late, please call us at 239-657-2253 so we know not to expect you.

What accessibility accommodations/features can I expect at the trail?

Our trails are mainly unimproved with natural surfaces with occasional exposed roots and rocks. Some of our trail systems also have wooden boardwalks and observation decks, which can become slippery when wet. Please visit www.crewtrust.org for more information.
