About this Event
LET'S TAKE A HIKE!
Presented by Deep Roots KC and Johnson County Parks and Recreation District
Experience the magic of nature on a guided naturalist walk at Nelson Island. Located between Mill Creek and the Kaw River, this park features prairie, woodland, and riparian areas. Breathtaking views of Mill Creek tell the power of our natural water systems and how its shaped the land around it. Despite its urban location, this landscape is crucial for supporting nature. See wildlife like Belted Kingfishers, Bald Eagles, and native ducks that call this place home.
Learn about our changing landscape from naturalists and natural resource experts. Meet other nature enthusiasts and find inspiration, information, and practical resources for supporting nature at home.
Before the hike, tune in to Deep Roots' free Native Plant Webinars on Thursday, November 7th at 12pm for a glimpse of what to expect during this Guided Naturalist Walk!
