Stella will be discussing the Canary Islanders, or the Islenos of Louisiana. The Islenos are a Spanish ethnic group living in Louisiana, consisting of people primarily from the Canary Islands. She will discuss where the Islenos came from and their journey. She will also discuss the many names associated with the Islenos and how they have been changed. Stella retired from The Dow Chemical Company in 2007 after 33 years of service. She has devoted her time and energy to genealogy and Louisiana History. Stella's roots are from the Bayou Chene area of the Atchafalaya Basin and has used her knowledge and friendships to help the Iberville Museum create a permanent exhibit dedicated to the history of the Atchafalaya basin and its wonderful history. She is a member of many genealogical societies and sits on the Board of Directors of Le'Comite and the Iberville Museum.
This is part of the Explorations in Genealogy series which is hosted by the West Baton Rouge Genealogical Society, spearheaded by WBR Historical Association Board Member, Debbie Doiron Martin, and sponsored by the West Baton Rouge Museum.
The lecture is FREE, open to the public, and no registration is required.
