A day of 5Rhythms that's all about the alchemy and spontaneity of simply coming together on a dance floor and moving together.
Working without a plan or a theme can open up surprising, exquisite and healing landscapes.
We'll be moving in a lovely village hall near the coast just North of Scarborough. A dance floor that has been seasoned by many, many deep dances over the years. There's loads of on-site parking and the bus from Scarborough stops right outside the hall.
Guerilla Rhythms is also about accessibility. There is no fixed cost. You secure your place by getting one of the no cost tickets and pay by anonymous donation in cash on the day. This gives those who are less well-off the opportunity to dance a longer workshop. For those in a more comfortable position, it is a chance to give back by subsidising those who can't manage to donate as much.
The event is offered by Chris Boylan. I'm a Waves and Heartbeat accredited teacher. Dancing since 1999, I completed my teacher training with Gabrielle Roth in 2008 and I've been doing lots and lots of teaching since. I'm a toolmaker by trade (no I'm not HIS Dad!!) which helps with a very straightforward practical approach to 5Rhythms and a fair bit of shop floor humour. I have a receptive approach to teaching, I love do drop in and follow the currents that emerge from the alchemy of the dance floor rather than working with prepared playlists and fixed plans. Guerilla Rhythms takes this all the way. I promise to have not a single tune prepared in advance! Past Guerilla Rhythms have all been beautiful, I'm sure this will too.
