The Placer County District Attorney’s Office is launching AppSafe, an initiative dedicated to protecting children from predators who exploit online games and apps to gain access to minors. Social media apps and online games connect kids to their friends and entertainment—but they also expose them to real dangers. Predators often use these platforms to find, contact, and groom children. This guide explains the risks and provides actionable steps to protect your family.
From Roblox to Instagram, and even popular video games like Grand Theft Auto, predators are using chat features, private messaging, and interactive communities to target children. The Placer DA's dedicated Sexual Assault Unit is working to hold these predators accountable in the courtroom. AppSafe is designed to educate parents and caregivers on how to recognize risks, set boundaries, and protect kids in the digital world - before a "case" even happens.
AppSafe is designed to educate the community on these cases, give parental tips, do security walkthroughs and provide insights to predators' online grooming activity. Together, we can prevent predators from accessing our children through their apps / games.
