Spring Semester, April 10 - June 7, 2025
- WHEN & WHERE
Classes will meet once a week at 32 Prince St (Soho). The Spring Semester will begin on Thursday, April 10th, 2025.
- PARTICIPANTS
With the exception of a course dedicated to children (age 5-8), all other courses are designed for adults. Parents of teens who may wish to enroll their children in any of the courses offered should enquire about availability and permission to register.
- CLASS SIZE & REQUIREMENTS
Minimum number of Students per course: 7
Maximum number of Students per course: 12
Courses will be canceled if the minimum number of students is not reached five days before the scheduled start of classes. Courses will be closed once the maximum number of students is reached.
At this time, due to high demand, we kindly ask participants to register for only one course. Any multiple orders will be canceled at the discretion of the organizers.
- WAITING LIST
If the course you selected is at capacity, you may place your name on the waiting list for that course. We will notify you if an opening occurs.
- REGISTRATION FEE
To enroll in the classes, a $50 registration fee and a one-time $200 charitable contribution are required.
For the "Italian for Children" class, the registration fee is still $50, but the one-time charitable contribution is reduced to $160.
The donations will help underwrite the cost of each class and make it possible for even more people to learn Italian. Charitable contributions to a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization may be tax deductible.
PLEASE NOTE: After registering on Eventbrite, you must send the full amount through Zelle or PayPal (preferably Zelle). - COURSE SELECTION
To make your course selection, and for more details, please be guided by the table below and the course description available in the 'Agenda' section, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

- CANCELLATION POLICY
There is no Registration refund for cancellation of course(s) on your part. If cancellation occurs not more than one week prior to the start of the semester, you may receive credit to register for the next semester. If GTF cancels the course for any reason, all your fees will be reimbursed.
- INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The course-specific syllabus will be provided on the first day of class and the instructor will notify you of any supplies you may need.
- MAKE UP CLASSES
If you miss a class, speak with the course instructor to receive guidance and any material that may have been distributed in class. If you feel that you need to arrange a make-up class, you may book it directly with your instructor.
If you miss more than one class during the semester, we suggest that you take the same course in the following semester.
- PHOTOGRAPHIC RELEASE
Participants will be required to sign a Photographic Release Form at the start of the course. Photos taken during classes may be used for internal, educational, or promotional purposes, including websites, social media, and printed materials.

Italian Beginner - Group 1 | Tuesday 10:00-11:15am

Info: The beginner course is designed for students who have already been introduced to the Italian language and are beginning to use the language in familiar situations.
What to expect after attending all the sessions and doing the assignments:
Participants will be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., very basic personal and family information, studying, making calls, and dinner with friends). Will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

English Conversation II | Tuesday 10:00-11:30am

Info: This course is a continuation of the English Conversation classes offered in the Winter semester. Its goal is to improve conversational skills and personal confidence when speaking English through the discussion of subjects of interest to the students. This will be achieved by posing a topic around which the students can learn new vocabulary, and colloquial and idiomatic expressions. If it becomes evident that there is the need to "clean up" a grammar point, a small amount of time will be spent reviewing that information. Students will also work on their pronunciation on an as needed basis.

What to expect after attending all the sessions and doing the assignments:
Participants will be able to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Will be able to describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
Will be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in community, work, leisure, etc.

Participants will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. They will be able to produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Will be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Info: This course is designed for individuals who are well on the way to develop proficiency in the Italian language.
This course aims to enrich knowledge of Italian language, culture, and society through conversational classes that will use sources and materials coming from Literature, Cinema, and Italian Newspapers. Designed for students who already possess a good knowledge of the language and grammar basics, we will use multimedia approaches to enter in a very simple way within the deep core of Italian Culture. Students will write a weekly diary where they will be asked to reflect on a certain topic that was discussed in class or to write any kind of reflections; debate and discussions will be more than welcomed. When needed, the teacher will approach a particular grammatical subject that needs to be reviewed or explained to the class for the benefit of conversational skills.

This course uses theatrical exercises, improvisations, and role-playing to help you speak with greater confidence, fluency, and expressiveness. We will stage real and cultural situations, working on pronunciation, intonation, and emotions. No theatrical experience is necessary, just the desire to learn and have fun!

Introduction to Latin | Saturday 11:30am-12:45pm

Info: This course offers adult learners a dynamic introduction to Latin through the reading-based approach, making the language accessible and engaging. The basis of this method is, unsurprisingly, reading! Meeting once a week, participants will develop foundational skills in Latin vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure while actively using the language to reinforce learning.
Beyond language, each lesson will explore a different aspect of Roman civilization, from daily life and mythology to politics, philosophy, and literature. By uncovering Latin’s lasting influence on both modern Italian and American culture, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the legacy of Ancient Rome. No prior knowledge of Latin is required—just curiosity and enthusiasm!
