About this Event
π Fruit, Harvest & Preserve: Bringing Your Medicinal Mushroom Grow Across the Finish Line
Session 4 of 4 β Mushroom Cultivation Series
Your Bags Are Colonized. Now It's Time to Fruit.
You've done the work. You sterilized your grain, inoculated with liquid culture, prepared your substrate, and loaded your grow bags. White mycelium has claimed every inch of the bag. The hardest part is behind you.
Now comes the most rewarding stage of the entire process β coaxing your colonized block into producing the beautiful, abundant fruiting bodies you've been working toward. Session 4 is where everything you've learned becomes a harvest.
What We'll Cover
π¨ Fruiting Conditions β Dialing In Your Environment Mycelium is patient, but fruiting bodies are demanding. We'll cover exactly what your mushrooms need to trigger and sustain a healthy flush:
- Humidity β target ranges for different species, how to maintain them, and how to measure what's actually happening in your fruiting space
- Fresh Air Exchange (FAE) β why COβ buildup is the enemy of healthy pins and how to manage airflow without drying out your block
- Light β how much, what spectrum, and what it actually signals to your mycelium
- How fruiting conditions vary between species β Lion's Mane, Reishi, Oyster, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, and others each have their own preferences, and we'll break down what each one wants
- Setting up a simple, low-cost fruiting chamber from everyday materials β no expensive equipment required
πΏ Species Spotlight β Know What You're Growing Different medicinal mushrooms fruit differently, and knowing what to expect from each one is half the battle. We'll walk through the unique characteristics of popular varieties
You'll learn to recognize healthy development, spot species-specific stress signals, and respond before small problems become lost flushes.
βοΈ Harvesting Technique & Timing Harvest too early and you leave yield on the table. Harvest too late and quality drops fast. We'll show you:
- How to identify the perfect harvest window for each medicinal species
- Proper cutting and twisting techniques to protect the block for second and third flushes
- How to care for your block between flushes to maximize total yield
- Why some species are harvested for their properties rather than their flavor, and how that changes your approach
π¬οΈ Drying & Preserving Your Harvest Fresh mushrooms are incredible β but they don't last long. We'll cover the best methods for extending the life of your harvest:
- Food dehydrator settings and timing across different species and densities
- How to test for proper dryness to prevent mold in storage
- Storage containers, shelf life, and how to rehydrate for cooking
- Making medicinal mushroom powders for tinctures, teas, capsules, and culinary use
π§ Troubleshooting Common Problems Even experienced growers hit bumps. We'll run through the most frequent issues and how to fix them:
- Contamination β identifying green, black, and bacterial contamination and when to cut losses
- Aborts and stalled pins β what causes them and how to recover
- Low yield or no fruiting β diagnosing environmental and substrate issues
- Species-specific quirks that get misread as problems
- Unusual coloration, odors, and other warning signs to know
Completing the Journey
This final session ties the entire series together. Whether you've attended every class or you're joining us for the first time, you'll leave with a complete picture of the cultivation cycle β from grain to harvest β and the confidence to run your own successful grow at home, start to finish, across a range of powerful medicinal species.
The Complete Series
- β Session 1 β Grain Sterilization & Spawn Preparation
- β Session 2 β Liquid Culture & Inoculation Technique
- β Session 3 β Substrate Prep, Pasteurization & Spawning into Grow Bags
- π Session 4 β Fruiting, Harvesting, Drying & Troubleshooting (You are here)
Who Should Attend?
This class is a perfect fit for:
- Series students ready to complete their cultivation education
