About this Event

Walk to the 'Celebration of Heritage' event
Saturday 21 March at 11.30am

Starting from Town Hall Square, off Horsefair Street (close to the Bike Park). Finishing on the University of Leicester campus.

Between 75- 90 minutes with short information stops. Steady pace.
Allow extra time to visit the heritage event.

Join a friendly group walk from the city centre to the University of Leicester for their fantastic Celebration of Heritage event! Along the way, weโ€™ll pause for light information at places of interest. Our route will vary slightly from previous years. The walk terminates on the University of Leicester campus, close to public transport links.
Take a break in one of the University cafes, then explore the Celebration of Heritage event at your leisure. There you can discover the amazing arts, culture and heritage opportunities on campus and across the region. This event will also celebrate the close of Literary Leicester.

About the Heritage Event
The Event takes place on Saturday 21 March from 12 - 4pm in the Percy Gee building on the University campus. It is open to all and you can attend independently of this group walk. Representatives from many local organisations and community groups will be on-hand to bring the regionโ€™s history and heritage to life. Discover new places to visit and find out how you can get involved. All are welcome.

How to book a place for the walk
This short walk is free to attend, but numbers are limited so please book via Eventbrite to secure your place or phone 0116 454 2860. Please note our phone line is answered during office hours only (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm), not at weekends or bank holidays. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone (during office hours)so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.

New Walkers

If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form. You will receive an email in the days leading up to the event with information about how to complete the form. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite). Children are not required to complete the form, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather

Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:

  • Comfortable sturdy footwear
  • Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
  • On cooler days wear appropriate warm layers (hat, scarf, gloves) and a coat/jacket
  • It's advisable to bring a bottle of water with you.

Group size

We kindly ask walkers to book a place, to help us keep our group sizes manageable.

Self-guided routes

If you have been unable to book onto one of our group walks, or you prefer to explore with your family or friends, self-guided routes are available to download from the routes page of our Choose How You Move website or via the Go Jauntly smartphone app. For other ideas, do check out our Walk Inspiration page which features walk videos and quiz trails. Enjoy exploring Leicester on foot.
