Wars, doomsday moods, despots. Now art is also being cut back in terms of money and freedom. What could be more obvious than to defy the increasing darkness of moods with a smile and an exhibition about humour?Humor my love, Humor is the title of a group exhibition realised jointly by frontviews e.V. and roam projects e.V., which opens on 12.12.24 at 6 pm in the exhibition space of roam projects, opposite the Jewish Museum at Lindenstraße 91, at the end of the year.
20 international artistic positions provide a great insight into the theme of humour as a subject of contemporary art.
As humour is known to be a matter of taste, the curation takes up the description of flavours. Salty, sour, bitter, sweet and umami are the 5 flavours that can be discovered in the exhibition, sometimes more subtly, sometimes more strongly, giving the
viewer an exciting taste of familiar, new and unusual worlds.
In the cold season, a warming exhibition tells of the great power of subtle, clever humour in the visual arts as a unique means of building bridges in times of increasingly cold social upheaval.
Although humor always depends on individual taste, it demands from artists, as a subject, the ability to be legible. Whether subtle or louder, it always communicates clearly, appealing to a wide range of people with diverse life realities.
In its necessary tangibility lies something wonderfully mysterious—whatever individuals may perceive in the images and sculptures, whether a smirk, a smile, or rejection, art and the experience of it happen in that moment. Quietly for most, almost imperceptibly, hidden within the obvious representation. Artistic experience can thus emerge unfiltered and free from deep within, creating value and a far more enduring connection.
In this way, the experience of art can emerge from the depths completely unfiltered and free and create true value, a far more lasting touch.
In the exhibition Humor my love, Humor, art lives in perhaps its most beautiful form, in the gift of a smile.
