🔬 Our Special Guest: Dr Karen Mooney
Founder of The Science Room
Dr Karen Mooney is the founder of The Science Room, an award-winning science education and outreach consultancy that helps people of all ages engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Karen takes a STEAM approach, combining science with art, creativity, and practical experiences to make complex subjects more accessible, engaging, and memorable.
Through workshops, tuition, and talks, The Science Room is helping to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers.
Karen is a scientist, specialising in freshwater and marine systems and sustainable development. Her research has been featured in New Scientist, on radio, and on ITV primetime television.
She spent ten years working in public-sector research and education at Edinburgh Napier University and Queen’s University Belfast. She also brings more than 14 years of experience in tutoring and STEM outreach.
Karen will share the story behind The Science Room, her approach to combining science and creativity, and what she has learned from making STEM engaging for wider audiences.
