Have we got some oh-so-great news for you!!!
Presenting…
🎵Ba da da da da Daaaaaaa 🎶
…Groove School: SongCrafting, a 6 week musical smorgasbord of learning and playing music in community and taking that creative energy, support, and guidance to write 6 (yes, 6!) original songs. Through playful connection and soulful introspection, we will give form, body and heart to the beautiful music inside us all!
We will get to write a variety of different styles of songs, from rounds and sing-alongs to longer form, rap and much more. Each session will start with innovative and fun musical activities to get our creative juices flowing. Then, we will demystify the process of songwriting, learn what makes music really hit those emotional notes, and write some amazing tunes with support from our group and our incredibly versatile and talented teachers, Samara Jade and Jon Handelman.
Participants will leave with a newfound musical understanding and community, their own original songs and the tools and support to keep creating more.
To wrap it all up, we will have a super special concert where we will collaborate and perform a medley of our favorite songs in front of a live audience with all proceeds going to charity!

Abouts:
Groove School is a biannual program that brings people of all different musical skill levels together to learn, explore and create music together. Through different creative activities and collaborative group projects. Created 2 years ago and run by Jon Handelman and Josh Fox with guest instructors, this will be its fourth offering!
A multi-instrumentalist folk troubadour, grief tender, sacred space holder, lover of the natural world, underworld spelunker and prolific weaver of memorable soul-centered songs, Samara Jade is known for a sophisticated quality of musicianship distinctly her own and for always having a song on hand that is medicine for the moment.
A grass-roots style touring folk musician for over a decade, Samara has been weaving and widening the webs of community through not only performing but also facilitating songwriting workshops and singing circles. She has taught workshops at music camps, retreats and gatherings around the country, and is known and appreciated as a facilitator for her approach that weaves technical mastery with heart-based emotional literacy. Some have called her a “permissionary” - giving those around her permission to be their authentic creative selves!
One of Samara’s greatest joys is acting as what she calls a “song doula” - holding a deep space for others to birth their own soul’s song. Check her stuff out at www.samarajademusic.com
Jon Handelman is the co-creator of Groove School and a life coach who has been playing and studying music for over 20 years. He has started regular communal jam meet ups and created and directed traveling musical peace circuses that have performed all throughout South America. Jon regularly hosts jam spaces and teaches voice workshops at various festivals, including LEAF, Rendezvous, Floyd Yoga Jam and Compassion Camp.. He is the creator of the Love Song gathering, a 4 day, 300 person event focusing on village building, communal singing, and musical development. Most recently, Jon organized and focalized a community written and directed interactive musical called “Before Long”. He’s always up to something creative and you can learn more about him at www.jonhandelman.com
