Grigg's 2nd Cooking Competition is a Chili Cook off!
September 12th 1-3pm at Grigg's in Pasco
It's a free, fun, family event.
Want to judge? Just sign up at the welcome tent, it's free! We will have several other local vendors including food and crafts.

Entry per Cook
• ONE CHILI PER TEAM - Each head cook is responsible for preparing one pot of chili that he or she intends to be judged by and turning in one judging cup from that pot. No more than one judging sample can be taken from any one pot.
• Any type of chili may be cooked for the competition
Cookware and Stations
• EACH TEAM NEEDS TO SUPPLY THEIR OWN:
• Cooking equipment & fuel
• Cooking ingredients including meat, spices, etc.
• Any condiments you think should be served with your chili.
• Table and chairs – for cooking and sitting. You generally will have an approximate 10' x 10' cooking and show space if you are only cooking chili for the competition.
• Tent if you want one.
Site Rules
• Each team will consist of a head cook and as many assistant cooks as the chief cook deems necessary. Each team will provide a pit and/or pits to be used exclusively by that team within the team’s assigned cooking site.
• The contest will be for best chili – you must provide enough for 100 samples for public judges – roughly 5-6oz.
Cooking
• No ingredient may be pre-cooked in any way prior to the commencement of the official cookoff. The only exceptions are canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper sauce, beverages, broth and grinding and/or mixing of spices. Meat may be treated, pre-cut or ground. MEAT MAY NOT BE PRE-COOKED, in any manner. All other ingredients must be chopped or prepared during the preparation period.
Sanitation/Clean-Up
• All teams are expected to maintain their cooking sites in an orderly and clean manner and to use good sanitary practices during the preparation, cooking, and judging process.
• The use of sanitary gloves is always required while handling food. Failure to use sanitary gloves may result in disqualification.
• Teams are responsible for cleaning their site once the competition has ended
• All fires must be safely extinguished, and all equipment must be removed from the site. If any team’s assigned site is left dirty/disarray with leftover trash and/or fires, it may put the team on a list that will prohibit the teams from competing in future events.
• Sample cups, spoons, and napkins will be provided by promoter.
TIMES:
• 8:00am: Competitors may set up in the Griggs parking lot in the designated spaces.
• 1pm: Contest opens to judges
• 3:30pm: Winner is announced
• 4:00pm: Clean up
CAUSES FOR TRAY DISQUALIFICATION
• Proper sanitary expectations are not maintained.
• Foul, abusive, and/or unacceptable language by a head cook, assistants, and their guests can result in immediate disqualification.
• The Promoter is not under obligation for refund of products used for any participant that gets disqualified.
ANNOUNCING WINNERS
• Winners will be announced at 3:30pm.
• Winners will be picked by taste
• Prizes will be as follows:
o First Prize: $500 cash
o Second Prize: $200 Griggs Ace Gift Card
o Third Prize: $100 Griggs Ace Gift Card
