About this Event
Conehead Buddha is a New York-based jam band formed in 1993 by frontman Chris Fisher, known for their blend of funk, rock, ska, reggae, and Latin styles, creating a high-energy, dance-focused live show that has made them a staple of the East Coast jam band scene. The band has seen periods of activity and hiatus, with Fisher reforming the band with long-time members and a new lineup of musicians, continuing to release music and tour across the region
Ominous Seapods were an integral part of the 90’s jamband
scene. They performed nationwide often along side such bands
as moe., Disco Biscuits and God Street Wine. They initially
disbanded in 2001 but after a series of extremely well received
reunion shows in 2018, they decided to reform and continue to
play shows in select markets each year.
Ominous Seapods built a dedicated fanbase by touring the
nation relentlessly throughout the 1990’s and into the early
2000’s. They played such notable venues as Red Rocks in
Colorado, the Wetlands Preserve in NYC, and the House of Blues
in LA, Boston and Chicago as well countless large outdoor
festivals. They released 3 studio albums and 2 official live
recordings. Richard Gehr of Spin magazine called their album,
Jet Smooth Ride, one of the top ten jam band releases of all
time.
The current lineup includes original touring members Max Verna,
Tom Pirozzi, Brian Mangini and Ted Marotta. Their shows include
all the classics in the Seapod’s original catalog along with a few
choice covers and some new material as well.
Their music is known for its tight grooves, intense jams, catchy
hooks and quirky humor. Each live Seapod’s show is a purely
unique experience that captures the essence of their touring 90’s
years but still evolves as a new and exciting project!
It begins, as all good band origin stories should, with a W**d buy. About twenty minutes later came the spark: “Dude — let’s start a reggae band.”
Thirty-five years later, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets are still at it. Over the decades, they’ve played thousands of shows, released six studio albums, produced a full-length film with High Times, and spread countless smiles.
“We took all the cool rhythms and messages from Bob Marley and mixed them up with the music we were listening to — the Grateful Dead and bands like that.”
The result is a sound that blends reggae, soca, ska, jam, and rock into a mix of message and movement. From early hits like “Come Down from the Mountain” and “Freedom Warrior” to new tracks on their upcoming album — including “Albany Ska” and “It’s Not Easy” — the band has earned consistent airplay and packed crowds throughout the Northeast.
Recently voted Upstate’s #1 Reggae Band, Dr. Jah and the Love Prophets continue to bring people together through music, energy, and spirit.
Moon Boot Lover delivers a one-of-a-kind mix of rock, funk and soul, with dynamic versatility and range. From high-energy body-moving grooves to heartfelt emotive ballads, Peter Prince (front man & MBL originator) & MBL are widely respected by fans and musicians alike for their signature "Rocket Soul" sound and deep catalog of songs that top "all-time favorites" lists of fans across the globe!
Founded in NYC in 1993, the initial lineup of Moon Boot Lover featured guitarist, vocalist & MBL songwriter, Peter Prince alongside Alan Evans on drums & Owen Yost on bass, they recorded MBL's first release,Outer Space Action (1994).The following year Neal Evans on keyboards & Jon Hawes on bass joined the group to record MBL's second live release, Live Down Deep
(1995). Each album featured a comic book-style cover art drawn by Peter Prince. The band achieved success on the jam bands circuit with contemporaries like moe., Schleigho, and others. In fall of 1996, they played a short Rock the Vote tour with moe., the Ominous Seapods, and Yolk, which featured a large amount of cross-pollination between the groups. After a couple of years of hard touring around the country, Jon Hawes left the group, leaving P .Prince & the Evans brothers to record their 3rd studio release, Catskill Martian Dogs (1997).
The Evans brothers left to pursue other projects (Soulive), Prince, meanwhile, participated in collaborative acoustic tours with singer/songwriter David Gans, members of moe., and others entitled the Merry Danksters, as well as touring with Allman Brothers guitarist, Derek Trucks, before putting together a new lineup of Moon Boot Lover.
With the transience of the lineup established, Peter Prince firmly became the group's center of attention. His frenetic guitar playing on his trademark Flying V guitar, coupled with his maniacally comic stage persona and deeply soulful voice was simultaneously visually entertaining and exhilarating. Now touring as an elder of the jam band scene, the new lineup of Moon Boot the reunion of Jon Hawes back on bass, Andy Herrick on drums (Assembly of Dust) & Jeff Merrow on keyboards.
The new lineup recorded Back on Earth in 2000, a well-balanced collection of funk, rock, and soul originals. Yet another lineup of the band soon took to the road -- this one featuring Nate Edgar on bass and Mike Dunkle on drums -- in support of the disc, with Hawes and Herrick signing on for selected dates. In the spring of 2001, Prince also undertook a solo acoustic tour playing colleges and theaters, opening & performing with longtime Dave Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds.
Since, MBL has gone thru several more line up changes with super talented musicians keeping the original "Rocket Soul" spirit alive. Jeremiah Hosea, Swiss Chris, Johnny Trama, Gary Wicks, Brian Sayers, Ben Carle, Mike Migliozzi ,T om Martin & Lee Falco...
