Greenville CAN January Lunch & Learn - ABVISC

Join us on Thursday, January 9 at the Kroc Center Greenville (424 Westfield St, Greenville, SC 29601) for our January Lunch & Learn featuring the Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired South Carolina's (ABVISC) mission is to empower individuals who are blind or have low vision with the adaptive skills they need to live safe, independent, and purpose-driven lives. ABVISC was established on October 14, 1936 by a dedicated group of volunteers led by Mrs. Fred J. Sahlmann and members of the American Foundation for the Blind. They were chartered and incorporated on April 19, 1937. While their services have changed over the years, they have always promoted independence and strived to improve the quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired through the programs they provide.

ABVISC helps adults who are blind or visually impaired learn new approaches to daily life. Skills taught through their Own Your Life classes range from household management tasks to workforce development training like typing, interview preparation and safely using public transportation.

Services provided include virtual trainings, assistance with employment , providing scholarships for people who need guide dogs, doctors referrals and others.

ABVISC offers free adjustments to blindness training to help individuals learn adaptive approaches to daily takss, how to move safely through various environments, use low vision aids, cope with the emotional aspects of vision loss, and so much more.

Greenville CAN Lunch & Learn events are free however, registration is required. Lunch will be generously provided by Carolina Drive In.

You can attend the event either in-person or virtually. The Zoom link will be sent out 30 - 60 minutes prior to the event.
