Greening Health Care Summer Conference 2026
About this Event
An interactive working session focused on capital planning alignment, recommissioning implementation challenges, and vendor performance accountability. This is an in-person event that will allow healthcare professionals to share experiences, discuss barriers, and review practical frameworks for embedding operational savings into procurement and capital planning processes.

New construction and redevelopment: from design intent to operational reality
Info: New hospital builds present major opportunities where decisions have long-term energy consequences. Closing the gap between modelled and actual performance is harder than it looks. This session draws on two facilities that have got it right. The West Park Healthcare Centre team will walk through their two-year journey from commissioning to live operations. It’s an account of what worked, what required correction, and what the team would do differently. The Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre in Nova Scotia brings a second perspective, broadening the picture across different project types and geographies.
These lessons are directly applicable to hospitals currently in planning and development stages. For redevelopment leads, planners, and policy makers, this is some of the most grounded available evidence on what high-performing new hospital construction requires.
🕑: 11:45 AM
Recognition and reinforcement
Info: Our annual awards ceremony celebrating the member hospitals that made the big savings in 2025.

Operational improvement and recommissioning in existing buildings
Info: Proven savings with no capital required. Big energy savings are achievable in existing buildings without requiring capital projects. The SickKids Patient Support Centre delivered a 16% reduction in energy use through systematic recommissioning and operational improvements alone. This session covers how they did it, including the methodology, implementation, and utility incentive programs that can support similar work at other facilities.
For hospitals not yet at this stage, the session makes clear that meaningful headroom exists across every portfolio, and that the tools and programs to act on it are available now.

Navigating energy changes in operational hospitals
Info: The biggest barrier isn’t technical — it’s getting senior management and clinical teams on board. This session shares how one health system managed HVAC scheduling, decarbonization planning and the coordination needed throughout the organization to make it happen. Presentation followed by an open panel exploring lessons learned and how they apply to different hospital types and locations.
