Around here, directly or indirectly, community life revolves a lot around Big Green Lake. Whether we're farmers, business owners, community leaders, parents, or students, the lake affects our lives and is source of community pride and unity.
Because our lake impacts us all, we all have a role to play in its health. With more community members involved in water quality stewardship, we build a foundation of support for long-term watershed protection efforts.
You (yes, you!) have knowledge, views, needs, wants, and values that will strengthen the water quality improvements underway and your participation has a ripple effect within your social network, activating more people to join the effort.
With water quality decreasing, we need everyone to play their part in building a plan for a healthy future.
Our Community Driven Approach
Inspired by a “Learning Hubs” model, our community watershed plan will unfold by engaging a variety of community members with meaningful steps:
* Recognize the Situation: Acknowledge our current challenges and opportunities for beneficial change
* Community Engagement: Develop a shared vision of what we want our future to look like, and lay out steps to move forward
* Share Our Vision: Present our shared vision at a community reception to build broader awareness and action
* Watershed Improvement: Through community action, advocacy and our shared vision, the community will have the framework and buy-in necessary to address lake health challenges and act with a renewed focus and impact.
A community watershed plan is the next step to assure future generations that the Green Lake Watershed will remain beautiful, clean, and able to coexist with productive agricultural land and a growing population for years to come.
Please join us for the first step - starting the conversation and building a shared vision for the future of the Green Lake watershed. As a community member, your input is critical!
