About Sam Straight:
Samuel Straight PhD is co-owner and Director of Production at Silver Hand Meadery in Williamsburg VA. He earned his doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Rochester in Rochester NY providing him a solid understanding of fermentation among other topics. He later discovered his passion for craft beverages during his tenure at the University of Michigan as a researcher and educator. As an avid homebrewer, Sam honed his skills at creating exceptional beer, cider and mead for almost two decades before joining Silver Hand Meadery as meadmaker and “alchemist” (as some customers have dubbed him). Since 2020, Sam and his team have crafted award-winning meads and ciders that have led Silver Hand Meadery to be one of the largest and most awarded meaderies in Virginia, distributing throughout the Commonwealth and shipping to customers across the United States. Since 2015, we have sought to rediscover, reimagine and reinvent mead, to make it current and relevant for today. Our mission is simple: To create exceptional meads and unique experiences so that our guests can savor what is good together.
