About Glenn Lavender:
Glenn spent 12 years touring North America and Europe with his Juno Award winning band, Downhere. During long stretches on the road, he dove into books on beekeeping and the historical fiction of Stephen Lawhead, where he discovered the ancient drink of mead. Drawn not only to mead’s rich history but also to the deep connection between honey, bees, and the environment, Glenn saw meadmaking as a way to align his creativity with his values of sustainability and stewardship.
To deepen his knowledge, Glenn attended one of the first multi day meadmaking workshops at UC Davis, the world’s premier winemaking institute. There he discovered the incredible variety of honey flavors and the versatility of mead. These insights inspired him to share this ancient drink more widely, and just one year later, in 2015, he and his wife Sherri opened Williamsburg’s first Meadery.
Since then, Silver Hand Meadery has become an award winning business recognized for both the quality of its meads and the unique experiences it creates. Glenn is dedicated to helping guests savor what is good, whether through tastings, honey explorations, or community gatherings, and finds joy in watching people experience lightbulb moments as they discover the depth of honey and the versatility of mead. For him, meadmaking is about more than a drink. It is about sustainability, stewardship, and building connections that inspire curiosity and creativity.
