Green Café hiking event Eckart castle & the Dommel river
About this Event
This is the second of a series of hiking events that will be organized by the Green Café, which will have the purpose of getting to know the Eindhoven region and its surroundings, while engaging in discussions and connecting with your walking partners.
Whether you attended previous Green Café events and would like to keep engaging and build a community, or you are a first-timer looking to connect with like-minded people and get to know the region better, this walk is for everyone, so feel free to invite some friends!
This time we will make a walk of around 10 kms to the north-East of Eindhoven, bordering Nuenen. We will get to know the history of two small castles (Eckart and Soeterbeek) built centuries ago around the Dommel. We will also hear basic geological and hydrological aspects of the river, and a little bit of explanation of the flora and fauna to be seen there. And finally, we will have a touch of the rural Netherlands.
This walk will be guided by Subin Sivadas, Zarina Urazmuratova and Mayra Ortega-Maldonado members of the Green Café Hiking team.
Practicalities:
- Gathering time: 10:15. The walk starts at 10:30, so please be on time. Be aware that this event will take a little bit more than 3 hours.
- Meeting point: We will meet in front of Eckart Castle. See link with exact location. Cars can be parked close to this address. Bikes can be parked on the left side of the castle (see link). If you come by bus, take bus number 404 that goes to Nuenen and step off at the Eckardal bus stop.
- Clothing: Please wear long pants and long sleeves (due to nettles), bring good walking shoes and a rain jacket if needed. The walk will not be cancelled even if it’s raining.
- Extras: We might take a small break to have lunch, so besides your own food and drinks, please bring some healthy snacks to share with others.
