About this Event
In this composting presentation, we will go over the basics of composting, including: how food waste contributes to climate change and why composting reduces our impact, types of composting (including backyard and worm composting), how the decomposition process works, and how to start and maintain your own compost bin.
About the presenter:
Alexa Harwood-Jones is a graphic designer and sustainability advocate. She earned a Diploma in Graphic Design and worked at the University of Manitoba for 4 years before transitioning to her current role as the Compost & Waste Reduction Coordinator at Green Action Centre. After her hometown was devastated by wildfires in 2021, Alexa started to pursue climate action in work and life. She created a Green Team at her office to help staff reduce waste, and, eventually, changed careers to full-time sustainability work. Since starting at Green Action Centre in September 2024, she has been busy visiting schools, workplaces, and community centres to educate the public on composting and waste reduction.
This is a free event. Seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
