About this Event
Grandma On The Moon by Belinda Lazenby
“Where do grandma’s go when they die? There’s only one thing for it, an investigation!” Leaving their den at the bottom of the garden, Timmy aged 10 & Poppy age 5 go on an action-packed adventure to try and find Poppy’s grandma who has recently died. Poppy wants to tell her “Something really important” but they’ve got to find her first!
With unlimited imagination they travel through lands magical, memorable, and familiar. “A fantastical family show!” Told through music, movement, and drama, Grandma on the Moon shows how we can keep those we have loved alive within our hearts and minds even though they are no longer with us.
Grandma on the Moon shows how children grieve differently to adults which can often lead to misunderstanding and confusion. It raises awareness of different support strategies to help children manage conflicting emotions. We see the impact of memories and the importance of keeping those we have loved alive within our hearts and minds even though they are no longer with us.
It is a high-quality piece of theatre which raises awareness and understanding of the bereavement process from a child’s perspective, encouraging us to have open, honest conversations around death & dying.

Az2B Theatre Company specialises in creating innovative, entertaining, impactful theatre for Arts in Health, Education & Training. Our mission statement is “To make a difference and act as a catalyst for positive change.”
The death of a close family member is the most devastating loss a child will ever face. Every half hour a child in Britain loses a parent and the rate at which they lose either a grandparent, close school friend or mentor is higher still.
AZ2B's research partners identified a clear need within Britain to promote conversations around death and dying and a need to challenge taboos. Children also grieve differently to adults leading to misunderstandings and lost opportunities of support.
To address this, AZ2B wanted to create a beautiful, high quality piece of theatre exploring death & bereavement from a child’s perspective – which was also fun! They wanted to use movement, music and drama to engage audiences and create a rhythm which mirrored a child being “in and out of grief”.
They also wanted to show the importance of memories, keeping those we have loved alive within our hearts and minds even though they are no longer with us.
The Princess Alice Hospice is delighted to be working with AZ2B to host Grandma on the Moon.
