After taking a break in 2024 and not hosting a Grand Depart, we are pleased to announce the 3rd Grand Depart of the Canadian Shield Bikepacking Route and that it will coincide with the 3rd Annual Canadian Shield Bikepacking Summit, allowing both summit participants and other riders that are interested in attending a Grand Depart, the chance to embark on an early season bikepacking adventure.One of the great things about the Canadian Shield Bikepacking Route is that ever since its first organized Grand Depart in 2022, it has allowed for a variety of distance options for riders to choose from. While the main route is 900km in length, there are options to both increase and decrease the overall distance. If time, fitness or bikepacking experience are of concern, the 400km, or new 250km distance, just might be the perfect opportunity for someone to get out there and ride their bike. If you are looking to really push your limits on what just might be one of the toughest bikepacking loops in Eastern Canada, you can attempt the Canadian Shield XL, an 1150km adventure with upwards of 18,000 metres of elevation gain.
One of the best things about joining a Grand Depart is getting to ride with a bunch of people at the start of a big adventure. It's also a great way to meet other riders that have a similar pace, with everyone finishing at the iconic covered bridge in Wakefield, Quebec.
