Grampains Full Moon Rogaine - Fundraiser
Advertisement
Fundraiser:
To support Leo Croxford to get life-changing treatment in the USA, Nelson Orienteering Club members Michael Croxford and Sally Lattimore are fundraising to send their son Leo to the States for a bone marrow transplant. The treatment is unavailable in New Zealand but offered free in the USA, so they need to cover the travel and accommodation costs for a minimum stay of seven months.
Leo has SASH3, an ultra-rare autoimmune disorder affecting only fourteen known people worldwide, which causes his immune system to attack his own blood when he is sick, injured, or stressed, landing him in the hospital numerous times throughout his life - twice in intensive care. Despite this, Leo represented New Zealand at three international orienteering competitions last year.
All funds raised at this night event will be donated to Leo's fundraiser: Adults $20, Juniors/students $10.
If you'd like to donate additional funds, please go directly to his fundraising Give-a-little page: givealittle.co.nz/cause/leo-sash3-bone-marrow-transplant
During a Rogaine, the aim is to find controls / checkpoints marked on a map in the real world, a task complicated by falling darkness. Checkpoints have different values, so it helps to optimise your route choice(s) beforehand. The winner is the one with the highest number of points in the shortest period of time. Coming back after 120 minutes will result in points being deducted...
You can run by yourself, or in a group.
The College hall is open from 5 pm onwards: please let us know you've arrived! Mandatory Race briefing 5:50 pm. Mass Start 6:00 pm, Finish 8:00 pm (remember, don't be back 'late', or points will be deducted!). The majority of checkpoints will be in/on the Grampians.
Does this sound like something you and your friends would enjoy but you've never been involved in an orienteering event before? Just arrive with plenty of time to spare, and one of the volunteers on the night will help you get started!
Please visit the Nelson Orienteering Website for additional information and online pre-registration instructions. Pre-registration closes Monday 29 June at midnight. https://www.noc.org.nz/event/grampians-full-moon-rogaine-fundraiser
