Grafting workshop
Morning: Learn the basics of whip & tongue and cleft grafting. Basic information on why we graft, how to select rootstock and scion plus demonstration of these two grafting techniques (Full notes provided)
Lunch: BYO. Coffee & tea provided.
Afternoon: Put the theory into practise by completing a whip & tongue graft to produce your own apple tree to take home. Scion will include a number of varieties suited to espaliering. M9 (dwarf) rootstock available for those with urban locations looking for a small, easy-care tree.
NB:
1. Numbers will be limited to 20 people.
2. Grafting requires a very sharp single edged knife. Five will be available for loan use on the day. If you want to BYO, a Felco rose budding knife is recommended (Felco no. 39020). Pocket knives or Stanley knives are not suitable.
3. Any experienced grafters or graduates of past grafting workshops who want to come after lunch to provide some individual help to students would be very welcome.
