TICKETS AND MORE INFO - www.trybooking.com/DKRRA
Picking up at Southern Cross Station at 8:30am, travel in Steamrail’s heritage carriages behind classic 1915 steam locomotive A2 986 (with assistance from a 1960's vintage diesel).
The engine will perform a fast run direct to Seymour in the morning, reminiscent of the golden age of the Victorian Railways and famous express trains like Spirit of Progress and Albury Express. After the train departs Melbourne, settle into your compartment and listen to the engine work hard as we climb the famous Glenroy Bank, through the northern suburbs and into regional Victoria. After passing through the volcanic plains surrounding Wallan, our train will climb to the summit of the Great Dividing Range at Heathcote Junction and pass through the familiar bushland of the North-East.
On arrival in the historic railway town of Seymour at 10:15am, we will have a stop to stretch our legs while the loco is turned on the turntable for the next leg of the journey. From here we will reboard the train at 11:00am to continue at a slower pace as we venture into the Goulburn Valley.
Arriving at the lakeside town of Nagambie at 11:50am or Murchison East at 12:20pm, you will have time to visit the Murchison East Railway Hotel or explore Nagambie at your leisure. For those setting their own itinerary, it is advised to book ahead for lunch venues in Nagambie as there may be limited availability at local venues.
After a pleasant lunch, the train will depart Murchison East at 3:10pm and pick up at Nagambie at 3:35pm. With a brief stop at Seymour at 4pm, we will run express back to Melbourne, arriving at Southern Cross Station at 5:57pm.
