Gospel, Jazz, and LoveWhat’s not to like?
The Wimberley Valley Big Band opens the fall season with a wonderful Jazz and gospel music concert in the big beautiful auditorium at First Baptist Church, Wimberley, Texas, on September 21 from 3 to 5 PM.
With the Band featuring in their inimitable Big Band style “gospel music” as well as familiar jazz tunes and popular love songs, the afternoon should prove to be highly entertaining.
Director Doug Gillory has lined up several brand new tunes for your entertainment and the band’s enjoyment, such as “Gospel John” made famous by Maynard Ferguso, and Southernjazz versions of Swing Low Sweet Chariot and BattleHymn of the Republic. The Big Band’s lead singer Kathy Burnette will croon several smooth tunes, including George Gershwin’s “Summertime” and “You Make Me Feel like a Natural Woman” made famous by Aretha Franklin. The Band’s other singers will sing tunes made popular by Sinatra and Buble. The HoneyTones, eight talented close-harmony singers, will entertain both with the Big Band and a cappella.
The Gospel, Jazz, and Love Concert is free to the public. As always, the nonprofit Wimberley Valley Big Band appreciates donations to continue its mission to bring the joy of big band music to the Wimberley Valley. All proceeds from donations from this event will aid those victims of the recent Texas flooding event. That need is very great, and the Band would like to help in their recovery.
