Good Friday is the heaviest day of the Holy Week journey: Jesus is sentenced to death, nailed to a cross and dies. What actually seems like a terrible Friday is called good because it is the culmination of God’s plan to defeat death and sin.Our Tenebrae service on Good Friday is an incredibly moving and impactful service. Tenebrae, meaning shadows and darkness, is marked by the gradual extinguishing of candles, followed by a loud noise that symbolizes Jesus’ death. It’s an opportunity to reflect on Jesus’ suffering and abandonment leading up to the joy of his resurrection.
